I debated on whether I should post another log I as I haven't been around much lately due to life's obligations and all of the worthless shit being posted here (not in the training forum but I plenty of the others). But why not, let's give it a go even if only three people follow it.

So I'm just under 8 weeks out and will be competing in a push/pull with a goal of hitting a 1,000 or more total at 198 pounds. There won't be many "supplements" used for this meet as it will be my last at 49 years old and I'm saving some of the more helpful power supplements for when I turn 50 and have a chance at some records and getting at or close to the top of the national rankings.

Current weight was 196 this morning so making 198 shouldn't be a big issue but I will avoid any temptation of dropping to 181. The only current injury that I'm concerned with is my left bicep tendon which was completely torn and surgically repaired back in 2013. It hasn't felt great for a while now and caused me to change my programming a bit for this meet. Knees are what prevent me from squatting competitively and I currently and getting cortisone shots in both about every 5 weeks and will eventually need a new set but we are still (hopefully) at least 5 to 7 years away from that.

So I started two weeks ago on the Candito bench program which wasn't in my original plan but I typically run the Bulgarian method benching for 8 weeks into the meet and I didn't think my bicep tendon would be able to take the daily heavy pressing. I will run this the next four weeks and then Bulgarian for the final four weeks up to the meet.

10 week deadlift programming started two weeks ago and has gone okay to this point. I will train daily up to meet week as I do much better with lower volume days at this stage of my competitive career.

4/25
paused bench warm up 4x205, 2x255, 1x305 working sets 3x1 355, 3x3 315
dips 3x20
tate presses 3x20 35
bb curls 12x65, 85 10x95, 105

4/26
paused bench warm up 5x165, 3x215, 1x265 working sets 3x3 315
close grip bench 11x245, 2x12 225
dumbbell bench 3x20 80
tricep pressdowns 3x20 80
paused deads 3x3 365
ghr's 2x15

Deads paused immediately after bar breaks floor. Had to drop the weight on the close grips as I thought I could get 3x12 at 245 but it wasn't happening after the paused benching.

I was out with the family last night and missed this, but I'm in. I've only briefly looked at Candito's routine, so I don't know much about it. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out for you.

paused bench warm up 5x165, 3x215, 1x265 working sets 3x3 315
incline bench 3x12 205
dumbbell ohp's 3x20 60
rear delt flyes 3x20 40
ab pulldowns 15x 110, 120 12x130
hanging leg raises 2x15

I'm not thrilled at the speed the triples at 315 are moving but hopefully it is a bit of accumulated fatigue.

I will post some bench videos next week when the weight gets heavier and there is something to post. Be forewarned my butt will be close to coming off the bench on every rep.

My upcoming meet uses a Forza bench and the amount of leg drive you can use on those benches without your ass coming up is second to none. I did 400 at this meet last year and left some on the table because I didn't maximize leg drive having never used a Forza before. I won't make the same mistake this year.

I was with you right up to the point your workout said something about abs, then i got confused. I don't think i have those.

Yeah I read somewhere about core strength being needed for deads. I'm pretty sure it was written by a bodybuilder! Thanks for checking in.

tricep pushdowns 3x20 80

Elbows are getting a bit tender from the high frequency and reps. One more bench session this week which will be tomorrow then I drop down to 2 days per week benching for the next several weeks.
