Workout without Protien?

Guys,

What would you do, on a workout day, if for some unavoidable reason you were not able to eat properly for that entire week and did not have access to your protien powder?

Let's make it as severe as -- you knew you were only going to be able to get two or three meals in each day, and the meals were around the 300 calorie mark.

Would you actually workout on that day? Or, since you wouldn't be taking in anywhere near the adequate amount of nutrition, would you fear that you were just doing damage to the muscle that wouldn't heal properly?

In otherwords, if you know you can't eat right for the week, do you skip your workouts that week? Perhaps switch to cardio?

Tell me what you'd do, using your best knowledge of nutrition and sports science.

I am not a body builder, but I would not skip my workouts because of my diet. Thats just me though. I work full time and have kids, so there are somedays where I don't get my full 6 meals, sometimes I only get 4, but I will not skip my workout, Just make sure you are eating a couple meals before your workout, and a couple afterwords. I basically have 3 meals before my workout, and then I have 3 afterwards. If I wasn't working I would probably just have 2 meals pre-workout, and 4 post workout. But, I have to have energy to work. I won't go into what my meals consist of, but I consume more protein post-workout. I drink ultra fuel right after my work-out.....all simple carbs, but I don't consider it a meal.
E-Dawg,

STATS: Age: 25, BF%: 13.4%, Height: 6'2", Wt.: 173lbs

With those stats. of yours,I would'nt workout.
I dont think you can afford the weight loss
If you were over weight maybe, but it's still a requirement to get your daily quota of protein in order to stay in a state of positive nitrogen ballance and avoid catabolism.

he's saying that he doesn't think you should work out, because if you do you're going to lose weight because A. you won't be taken in enough protein to have a +nitrogen balance and rebuild broken down muscle tissue and B. you aren't going to have enough calories in you to help fuel you through you through your workout

If you are only getting 600-900 calories a day, then you would gas out in a couple of days, regardless of whether you will recover or not. On the third day you would start to feel weaker than usuall.

Another thing to remember, it's actually not bad to break your workout habit every now and then, if you've been consistent for the last 3 months or so, a one week break could actually be good for you (many people disagree with me on this, but this is my own experience anyway).

900 calories!!! Even in prison you'll be getting at least 1800 cals a day. I wouldn't skip workouts just because I couldn't eat right for a few days though. We all go through busy times when our diets and training are off a bit, but in time it always right's itself.

I would workout just as I normally would.
