vitamin d metabolism

I wonder how much potent version of vitamin d we can obtain from Cholecalciferol (which is usually called vitamin d, which we are buying as a diet supplement).

This is a Cholaciferol metabolism:

Cholecalciferol---->calcifediol (25-hydroxyvitamin D3)---->calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3)

Calcitrol is the most potent of vitamin d version and is on top end of its synthesis.

My question is: If I took once 5000 IU of cholaciferol, how much calcifediol will be made, and how much calcitrol will be made ?
How long those 5000IU will be floating in my organism (How long will take to metabolise all cholaciferol to calcitrol)?

You are drilling down into way too much detail & biochemistry

Your doctor will normally only measure 25 HydroxyVitamin D = 25(OH)D
That is accepted as a good measure of the Vitamin D in your body
In the USA, deficiency starts at 20 ng/mL
Most experts now set a target of 40-60ng/mL

If you would like to read more about how much you need:
greenvits Search for "How much do I need"

Here are good places where you can learn more:
vitaminDwiki ( Read & search in 50+ languages )
vitamindcouncil ( 40+ "Health Conditions"
grassrootshealth ( Find the "Call-To-Action" by eminent experts )

I hope that this helps

The answer to "how long" is that the half-life of Vitamin D in the body is 14-30 days, since it is fat soluble

So you could take 5,000IU once each day or approximately 35,000IU once a week
