Using pre-sterilzed vials

I tried to search for this answer but didn't find anything directly answering it, so pardon me as I'm sure it's been answered many times.

When I brew some oil and inject it into a pre sterilized vial, considering that I will have broke the seal, how long is that oil good for? Is the use of pre-sterilzed vials mainly for avoiding some sterilization steps or is it done with the intent to start injecting the oil right away?
