Does anyone know the legality of purchasing drugs from foreign countries with a valid US prescription? I know usa was attempting to grant the access to Canada and Canadian prices (much cheaper than US, esp if self employed with awful insurance). I never kept up with the legislation. Spent a while on google searching without a concrete answer. Appreciate it. Wondering if any countries have some sort of “reciprocity” with us.

" the importation or reimportation of a prescription drug that does not meet Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements is prohibited. "
And if they are not made in an FDA approved facility with all the parameters that they require then they are not up to spec in the FDA viewpoint as i remember. Which is most it seems.
But it also says, you are allowed to import up to 3 months worth of medication at a time for personal use….on the importing postal website

Yes you are if you follow the FDA's as well as all other government agencies rules. The post office does not make laws or set policy in this country they follow the guidelines that are set out for them.

"In most circumstances, it is illegal for individuals to import drugs or devices into the U.S. for personal use because these products purchased from other countries often have not been approved by the FDA for use and sale in the U.S."

"Imported drugs must meet FDA’s standards for quality, safety and effectiveness. For example, medicines from outside the legitimate U.S. drug supply chain do not have the same assurance of safety, effectiveness and quality as drugs subject to FDA oversight."

"drugs must be proven to be safe and effective for use before companies can sell them in the U.S. A drug that lacks FDA-approval is considered to be unapproved."
