Since I'm Canadian, what does other Canadian's think about Trump new tarrifs, and how that will affect the Canadian economy. Will you change your shopping ways? for our U.S neighbours, how will this affect you?

It's all a negotiating ploy. Trump comes on very strong, then gives ground grudgingly while ensuring his objectives are met. In the end, the relationship will be stronger than ever between the allies.

In many ways "shopping" cannot be changed. Say nickel for example. Canada produces 45% of all the world's nickel. Unless it's purchased from Russia/comrades of Russia then it's Sweden next with around 9% the world market. Nickel is required for a tremendous amount of steel alloys, titanium and so on. Sweden's price is much higher, further to ship and most importantly not enough for the "need". Hello WAY higher prices for the customers of the USA. No import tariff on nickel? No problem?? That's ok, we will place one on for them, collect the extra 25% export tariff money and spend it on ourselves :) O no Boeing and Lockheed Martin whatever will they do?? You mean wacks of nickel is needed for a landing gear for a 737? You ship TWO 737's per day out the back of the factory Monday to Friday? (54 planes per month in 2018 was what they did- I helped make them :) ) And that paid $300M/day? Now you have "issues" with raw material suppliers?? Ah that's too bad, as the old saying goes most problems are created by the person.

I feel for you guys down there. As a whole you don't seem to be doing very well at all. We are doing much better. Looks like there is so much less in the US than Canada. You could do better. Your president is doing much better than you are. I see the news of his eating wonderful lavish dinners with his buddies. How are you doing? Kraft dinner is a stretch I know. Sorry to hear you are not doing very well at all. Your president is getting more rich and seems to be having is friends get more money too. How are you doing? Our minimum wage is $17.20/hr which is about $36,000 per year. How are you doing? And that is the BARE LEAGAL minimum. I have some minor education and earn over $50/hr. How are you doing financially? Good? Eating well and most importantly heathy? Any health issues? Feel ok? My friend just had a heart attack last year out of the blue. Triple bypass and three weeks in the hospital, came out owing exactly $0.00. 51st state LOL the better way by far is the USA is the 4th territory, at least there would be a healthy and educated society that don't kill each other. There were 778 murders in all of Canada in 2023. 617 murders just in Chicago, o yea I want this crap in Canada. The flow of handguns, meth and fentanyl from the US is horrible. Your president is right, we should close up the boarders a bit tighter. Thank you president again for more good ideas!!!

The list goes on and on. No one wins in a trade war. Total natural resources' per person in Canada- amazingly high!! More than the quadrillions of dollars of resources' available on Greenland which will remain kindly in Dane hands for centuries to come.

Why do I pay $0.99/lb for butternut squash produced in USA at the grocery store while I see butternut squash for $1.29/lb at Costco in Alabama and that was the lowest price I could find?

It's all just negotiating tactics.
One of Trump's next moves is going to involve picking apart the Canada/US border treaty of 1908. He apparently told Trudeau that he read it and found it "interesting." In other words, his team is combing through it to come up with a reason to invalidate it or at least put together an argument to that effect to sell to the american people so they will be more cooperative when he orders his own "special military operation" to annex Canada.

Thank you for capitulating. I apricate it.

I apologize for this outburst. It is not 350 million people acting poorly it is only one person. I hope he does not hurt the Americas too bad. That is the problem with psychopaths, they don't care who gets hurt as long as they get their way. Like an adult child. Unfortunately "it is like working with a child" was one of the things a co-worker of his said during his last presidency after they quit a position. Looks like nothing has changed.

By the way there will be no annex in any shape way or form by will and there cannot be a concur. Not possible. NATO and allies of piece will come to any free and democratic society's aid when requested. I sure hope this thread dies

I wish I shared your optimism.
If the US government decides they're going to annex Canada, I don't think any of our allies are going to do much at all to stop it. They'll probably get together and write a letter to Trump about how much they disapprove but that's about it. They aren't going to argue with him about it or he'll just tariff the fuck out of them and they'll capitulate to save their own political careers. They certainly aren't going to try to stop a military invasion. They're not going to send their troops here to get wtfpwned by the american military. Not a chance.

I don't think there will be much of any fighting happening at all, personally. We will just all agree to play it smart, and open our door like "alright, fuck. Come on in. Beer's in the fridge, just don't drink it all. And try not to be a bunch of dicks."
Then they'll treat us like the 51st state. The red-headed stepson. A resource deposit and nothing more. They'll bleed us dry. They'll give us sweet fuck all for federal funding towards education, healthcare, pensions, you name it. They'll give us jobs in the mines they'll take control of. They'll open more of them and we'll get to work there too. Yay. We don't have enough water to sustain ourselves longterm but they'll take that too(Trump can't wait to get his hands on our water. He knows if he can fix the US freshwater crisis he will be diefied in the history books). Our ecology will be absolutely destroyed, the country will be on fire and we'll have no water to fight the fires. We'll all be poor, sick, and eventually we'll be too dumb to care. We will be too concerned with making sure we have enough to eat.

I see nothing but doom in our future. I think the US government knows the level of trouble their country is in. I don't think the average person knows, but I think they know. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I think they've gone full-steam ahead during their first month in office because they needed to if they're going to accomplish all of the things they want to before Trump's term is up. It won't be his last term, mind you, and that's a big part of it too.

Big things are coming, my friend. Big fuckin things.
Everybody start limbering up.

I'd go to war before I give up the sovereignty of my country.
I doubt anything will happen but Im certainly not going down on my knees with my face in the ground

Whether Canada likes it or not, eventually Canada will be absorbed by USA. Is it right? Is it fair? Unfortunately it does not matter. Its called Imperialism and USA will need Canada's resources to maintain its super power position in the world in the coming decades. Only a matter of time.

What a crock of manure. This discussion about annexation. It’ll never ever happen. Canadians don’t want it and neither do reasonable Americans.

That leaves only sycophantic nut jobs pushing annexation

Brother I can promise you we will not be absorbed by you. I will die before I'm the 51st state.

From a US stand point, it depends on which side of the aisle you are on. I am admittedly conservative, and a lot of conservatives don't like the idea of Canada become a state over here what so ever. There are a lot of Liberals in Canada, that could tip the scale and cause the entire nation to lean Left. Not idea in my mind or those I mention.

I like the idea, because the US DOES provide a lot of defense to our northern neighbors, approximately 250 Billion dollars a year worth. Take a look at the news lately. Since we are going to build an Iron Dome, suddenly Canada wants in on that, and yes, they even said becoming part of the USA is not off the table (knees are buckling and headed toward bent). In summary though, and just my opinion, I like the idea because we'd be unstoppable together. Not the kind that goes and conquers the planet unstoppable, but just no country on Earth would dare stand against us. Even nuclear war from Russia or "others" would be a huge fuckin mistake.

Tariffs have been used by many many countries against the USA, that's no secret. We've kind of had enough of that though. It has been said for decades that we need a good businessman to come in and figure out how to get our debt under control. We, as tax payers pay to have our government take care of certain necessities of US citizens, yet, our government has, for decades now, played World Police and it has cost us dearly monetarily. We have a system, it's been abused, our government, over these decades I mention, have made decisions to spend our hard earned money and help a lot of nations and THEIR citizens. This is evident by the what DOGE has been uncovering. You may not believe it, but I work with it and around it, and I see it, even as prior US Military. Idiots, spending $500 for screwdrivers, to keep their budget from being cut--the system is all F#$%ed up . . . Trump is leveling the playing field, and yep, people will avoid those tariffs by bringing their businesses back to the US, or they'll just pay them. It's like he said, "If you want to come to the US and do business, you'll pay the toll."

You are a parrot, dude. You’re simply using a lot of words here that you’ve heard before and cut and paste is handy.

You have zero base of reference for the above drivel, you’re simple on REPEAT mode.

Sorry.

Which part do you think I'm parroting? When it comes to politics, most of us learn from those we believe, those we trust. I took a class in polisci in college, but it doesn't make me a politician.

When it comes to politics, I lean Right, so I listen and watch things that are befitting to my beliefs. Just as those who lean Left watch and listen to things that are befitting to their beliefs.

Example, I'm watching Gutfeld right now. I like it. Same as I like listening to Jesse Kelly. You might enjoy The View and things on CNN. It's your right if you choose to do so.
