Major Expansion of FDA Powers will Target Dietary Supplements

Sponsored by Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) with major support from Senator Michael Enzi (R-WY), the proposed Food and Drug Administration Revitalization Act (S1082) would turn the FDA into a drug development company that will expose Americans to new and dangerous drugs that have little testing to prove safety or effectiveness. The bill also gives broad new regulatory powers to the FDA that can be used to attack dietary supplements.......

Prevent DHEA from becoming an illegal drug!

Senate bill 762 (S.762) and House Resolution 1249 (H.R. 1249) seeks to classify DHEA as a controlled substance under the anabolic steroid category, something that this over-the-counter dietary supplement is not......

If one of the Kennedy's are involved its definitely about big corporate money. That is one thing about the dem's that I cannot stand, they always accuse the repubs for backing big corporate money and they are exactly the same if not worse. Both parties are so corrupt I'm almost embarrassed to call my self an American. But even so there is no other country I would rather live in. I will e them.

Amazing how politicians (and people in general) can point fingers at others and condemn their behavior while their closets are so full of skeletons. Especially Senator "Let's drive off a bridge while intoxicated and kill our passenger" Kennedy!!!!

Ron Bennington of the Ron & Fez radio program once said that a Republican is nothing but a Democrat wearing a better jacket.

Role Model..............How 'bout Switzerland? ( I seriously do contemplate it.)

That fuckiin Kennedy is in on the most fucked up bills on capitol hill. He is also the one writing the illegal alien amnesty bill along with McCain and that racist orginization called La Raza.
If kennedy is sponsoring it, it is bad, period:mad:

I don't think that should be illegal, BUT I think the FDA should approve all dietary supps. People sell shit out there in stores that may not be safe at all, and you get some 14 year old that may kill himself. I think there should be more regulation into supps. in that not ban just cuz it works, but someone should put more money to make sure they are safe.

If the FDA had the power to approve and regulate all supplements we'd have basically nothing. I believe I have the right to decide what I put into my body. Not the FDA, not Congress and certainly not Ted Kennedy.

The argument that we need to protect the children is one that can be used to take away almost ANY right.

If the "powers that be" REALLY cared one iota about the health of the American people (especially young people) tobacco and alcohol would be gone! (Not that I would support a ban of such because I believe in individual liberties and responsibility.) I'd speculate that if we added up the mortality and health issue figures for alcohol and tobacco for one year in the U.S., they would be far greater than the same in regard to supplements, pro-hormones and steroids for virtually their entire time of existence.

It all comes down to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I agree that alcohol and tobacco should be banned! but I do use them from time to time. I don't think the FDA would ban as many supplements as you think. Just the ones that could jepordize your health as supported by extensive research, and if that stands .... and you still want to use them, then you deserve to have your health compromised ... period.

I agree with snipe 200%. It comes down to money first and foremost and public safety second.
If it was truly about safety phen phen, celebrex, vioxx and MANY others would have never made it to market. If you have a few minutes you can read an article I wrote 4-5 years ago about the FDA tactics. http://www.forums.isteroids.com/ist...sant-article-originally-posted-superior1.html

ANyway. Other than the FDA trying to directly control our dietary supplements (They already control like 25% '3.3 trillion' of the GDP '13.3Trillion'). through direct congressional control. They are also on a rampage to discourage chinese exports which is where 90% of most dietary ingredients come from. If you even watch the news lately you'll see all the bad press on any topic not just dietary supplements. Drugs, tires, toys etc... What the U.S> is currently wanting to do is to heavily tariff chinese imports. The US is threatening to do this if China doesn't stop artificially depressing the value of their currency. You might ask why China would keep their currency devalued. It's to encourage importation to other countries of Chinese exports. The US isn't saying so much to make the products safer but that they are going to further tax the products. Chinas biggest negotiating tool is the Massive holdings they have in US treasury bonds. China is holding out on the US saying if we are forced to increase the value of our currency (discouraging exports) then we (china) will have to have a firesale on these treasury bonds. Which will spell some financal disaster for our Bond market (in addition to the volatility in our stock market lately) It's something the US doesn't want to see.

Anyway. This is all to say raw material for 90% of supplements have been increasing over the last 6 months. Even in July China decreased a tax refund for many exports which essentially spells out 10% increase in prices off the bat. Not counting an ever increasing cost of processing many raw vitamins and amino acids. ALL going up. 10% minimal up to 200% in the case of say Vitamin B5 for instance which I have seen firsthand.

While the retail market will not see as drastic of an increase in pricing of final product. It still means less profits for US companies, and eventually if continued increased ends prices for end users. It's definitely coming so it's a matter of time.

If you want to see astronomical price increases on supplements for the end users let the FDA get involved. That new and stupid product myalli or whatever that is out that is 'FDA approved' is BS. It's priced exorbitantly and also as far it's actual ingredients mostly useless. Obviously if you adhere to the myalli promise in that when you start the program you will eat a low calorie well well balanced diet, regularly excerise, etc..etc.. You could do 99% as well without the pills.

Anyway. Kinda off topic but not really.
