Donated blood this morning to keep my hematocrit in check. My BP was 160/86 and I’m not bulking. Pretty standard diet and a pretty tame cruising stack right now. What blood pressure meds are you guys having success with?

You need to get that checked out with a cardiologist and put you on some bp meds.

I wouldn't try to self medicate at those numbers.

I definitely will if telmisartan doesn’t tame it promptly. I don’t like to get anything I do not absolutely have to from the doctor because everything you do and everything you take goes on your MIB - medical information bureau report.

It’s like a credit report for your health.

It can cause dramatically higher life insurance rates, or even a flat out denial because the insurance company looked at your MIB and decided you aren’t a good risk for them.

I need a lot more life insurance for my family and I can’t leave them hanging like that. That big, tax free death benefit will give them financial freedom if I’m not around to take care of them anymore.

I truly hope this is a good eye opener. Clearly you care more about your loved one than yourself which I think most of us agree on(that would be our primary goal too)

If you do start telmisartan without a doctor's supervision. Please check potassium levels at baseline and a month in of using it.

Do you have a BP cuff at home? Check multiple times a day and keep a log.

Keep avoiding the doctor and they will be needing that life insurance sooner than later.

5mg bystolic (Nebivilol) at baseline to keep my systolics near 120. On bulk (currently) with higher test and others I use 40-80mg telmisartan to regulate. Also helps with water retention as I let my estrogen rise a little higher for brain and heart longevity and to keep my joints happier.

Honestly though diagnosing htn with a single reading is not how medicine works. Check ur bp in the morning before any coffee or other atoms there to 5 times a week and keep a log. Average ur systolics and diastolic weekly to see what ur actually bp generally is. Take this data onto an app such as push health and speak to a physician via a request, give them ur averages and ask for a script. Data is pretty clear that maxing one anti hypertension drug is not as effective as adding in a second pr third agent and most patients with primary hypertension require more than one agent. Thus the rise of combo drugs. A great place to start as u use anabolics would be telmisartan as it posses improved 24hr control over Val Sartain and offer improvements to lipid profiles. These are ARB’a, that’s a drug class.

Also what is your resting HR? If this is usually high a beta blocker such as bystolic (beta 3) or cravedilol (beta 2 if my memory is correct) may be a great second line agent. I prefer bystolic vs carvedilol for my situation.

Also u may want to see if an ace inhibitor works for u. Dry cough and Angioedema are problematic for some but Lisinorpril is a common ace inhibitor that may work for u

***im not a doc and this is jot medical advice. I’m a critical care/emergency medicine nurse who teaches patients daily on such matters and the intent of this post is to help educate so the end user can discuss with their physician***

Strong advise. Thank you. I do have a decent digital wrist cuff, but it’s a bit inconsistent. I’m going to get a true BP cuff because my wife knows how to use it. I’ll definitely watch that potassium level.

That’s a valid point. I’ve lived a good life and my children are good citizens and productive members of society now as young adults. If I die and my wife is financially set, I’m OK with that.

We’re all going to die sooner or later. I just want to have my financial ducks in a row before that time comes.

Before you change too much, please remember… one high reading does not mean you have high blood pressure. Monitor your BP first and see where the numbers fall.

The wrist cuff is the worst.

If you want an electronic one(I know you said your wife can check it). Look on Amazon for an omron as well, make sure you get the XL cuff. Will have to purchase it separately

Copy that. Thanks for the tip! Yeah that wrist cuff is all over the board. You can do it twice in a row and get substantially different readings one minute apart.
