Rotator cuff?

Im not so sure. Hurt my shoulder at work. Just felt like a slight pull. Dull ache for most part. When we went through different movements the dull ache turned into slight pain. The only position I feel the pain is if I act like I am pulling back the string on a bow. Now I do have some very slight popping in a lateral raise motion.

Does it really sound like rotator cuff? If so, ill lay off weights, but I still want to swim. Will that cause issues healing? As of right now(this happened yesterday) the dull ache has lessened a bit, though things have tightened somewhat. I have not tried to pull back so check if pain has gotten worse. Ive basically just been babying it to this point. Thanks.

I had a Grade 1.5 rotator cuff tear last year and generally when you do them you really are aware you have, its not just a bit of soreness so to speak. I lost loads of strength in the shoulder immediately and couldn't even raise my hand to the front. The area that it generally hurts is where the front of the shoulder ties in with the top of the bicep. I have also strained them over the years and had impingement syndrome too. By what you have said it sounds like just a minor pull - leave any kind of pressing movements for a week just to be sure is what I recommend from my experiences. Remember they are tendons too which means they take 3 times longer than muscle to heal, so don't expect it to be totally fine after 48 hours. You are best just sticking to things like leg presses as you will find most upper body exercises stress the delts in some way or other. See how you go and don't worry too much just yet.

In any case, if the problem appeared once, it may appear again if you do not understand what the reason is. Make an MRI diagnosis. This will be useful to you in any case. At least in the future you will be able to understand which exercises you should avoid or that you need to limit the load in some movements.

Its the never-ending story...even after you think youve healed its just hibernating waiting to comeback . The most vulnerable joint in your body , the rotator cuff. Go easy and if it gets worse seek professional help (physical therapy) Goodluck ~Ogh

Thanks all. It feels better today. But the dull ache still persists in certain positions. And at one point(I worked overtime today), I felt the same dull ache into my tricep. Making me think just a nerve? Either way I see company doc again Monday, so hopefully they will dig deeper and not just push it off. Rather not be dealing with this at all, but like y'all said better to know for sure. Appreciate it!

Work is sending me to Ortho doc. Looked him up, hes a surgeon. Not too keen on that. Depending on what he says im going for 2nd opinion.

You need to start with a visit to the shoulder and do an x-ray or CT scan. Since swimming or other loads can aggravate the situation.

So im in PT now, twice/wk. Doc says this is best, no need for surgery. PT has me limited on what im to do. Basically, they have me training muscle around the shoulder with bands right now. Nothing else. I wanted to do warm water swimming at my gyms pool. They forbid it, until I have better support surrounding the shoulder. I dont get it. I figure warm water swimming(not pushing the olympic pool) would be great for loosening up the muscles/tendons and building up the surrounding muscle. Insurance is under workers comp so I have to listen or theyll boot me off wc. Kinda sucks.

Facepulls

Thats the first thing we did with bands last week. I get it, and it is helping. Actually, I didnt think I rounded my shoulders, but apparently I did a little. Not enough to notice, but the PT said it is enough to contribute to the issue. Hopefully over the next month or so ill see significant change with the PT.

What’s not to get? You have a repetitive motion injury, you want to repeat that motion to heal a repetitive motion injury. That’s counterintuitive. Your MRI isn’t bad at all, the PT should be effective.

I think it's better to listen to the doctor in this case and not make unnecessary movements.

I work doing injury rehab training and while you may not agree with the ideology, just remember the pt has your best interest in mind. Gotta go back to square one to bring the supporting structures to an acceptable place, and they want to avoid any repetitive movements at the glenohumeral joint
