Here are the 10 things that insurance plans HAVE to have under the ACA

•Ambulatory patient services
•Emergency services
•Hospitalization
•Maternity and newborn care
•Mental health and substance abuse disorder services, including behavioral health treatment
•Prescription drugs
•Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices
•Laboratory services
•Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management
•Pediatric services, including oral and vision care

NOW - please explain to me WHY this is SO terrible and why insurance companies - who make SO much money they can afford to pay their CEO's salaries like these CANNOT somehow sell people plans that cover the 10 essential services! How fucking hard can it be??

Bro, does a steak dinner and ice cream come with this dream also?
The aca doesnt exists. This is Easter Bunny talk man. The dream is dead.
The aca is doa.
What does exist is a nuclear Iran. Thanks to this incompetent man we
call president.
How many US citizens are being held hostage by other nations across the world?
Why? This incompetent fellow in DC.

I will still have fun with the aca and participate in the discussions......But it doesnt exist.
All respect to you man, its just over.

cvictorg the short answer is because insurance companys are for profit
businesses and that is what the market will bare.

It is a dirty business to begin with. A gamble and the house always has the odds in their favor. You bet on getting sick and they bet on you dying before you use up the money you have payed in. The odds are stacked in the insurance co. favor because they write the policies, have all the data and statistics down to maximize profit.

One of the problems facing the ACA that you didn't mention on the list is the preexisting condition coverage. This makes these bullet points take on a whole new meaning. It changes the script or the odds so to speak because the insurance co. cannot limit or deny these costly and perpetual services.
If they do not raise the cost they lose the bet.

•Mental health and substance abuse disorder services, including behavioral health treatment
•Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management

You would think it crazy to buy car insurance after a car accident and expect them to pay for a preexisting condition - the cost would necessarily skyrocket.

What we are talking about is not insurance it is a maintenance plan or a extended warranty plan.

I think we should have both a blanket maintenance plan the provides basic health services, ER visits, check ups, preventive care, labs, basic doctor visit stuff.
Then have optional insurance that is open border across state lines to add competition and totally a la cart.

What i mean by that is if you want Maternity and newborn care you can buy that if not then you don't and you wont be covered. You could pick yes to cancer coverage, no to mental health services and so on.

Sorry for the long post. I am not for single payer or for insurance companies they both suck.
I think doctors need to manage there own businesses and charge what they can from each costumer, a sliding scale or something one fee for the banker one for the baker and one for the candle stick maker.
