Powerlifting and sex/cardio

That could turn into a LOL thread if it picks up steam, but interested in your experiences

4/5 years back i was playing tennis and now back into powerlifting, mostly working low volume and very low reps but 6 times a week, usually squatting 3 times a week. Weighing 250lbs and without much cardio, I can´t say the sex is the same...
Good thing is Mrs seems to like my new body (I used to train for PL but before knowing her, and was quite a bit lighter than now anyway), and with cialis and test, I´m both horny and hard, but f*ck the cardio is missing !!
Will get out of breath easily and most disturbing my thighs get very sore very shortly if I stand on them while at it. Add to this the lethargy on cycle and I have sex way less often than possible (at least with a partner !)

I know cardio is an issue with many PLers, some competitors I train with who are not even big won´t even walk up a fight of stairs if there´s an elevator available. If they are big it gets even more complicated, there´s a funny interview with Eddie Hall where he is explaining his sex life changed next to his blusing wife.

How do you guy go about your sex life ?
A trick I found is rather to do more cardio, I convinced Mrs to start Crossfit, see if she can manage more of the action :) but it´s still early to see results from her training :(

If your heart isnt racing and you're not out of breath, you're not doing it right. I think that feeling is one of the best things in life and I mean it! So powerlifting and then pounding your woman/man/small animal sounds like it works.

That makes sense, but I´d say if you need to give up pounding in fear of passing out or having a heart attack before coming, something is not quite right… one might as well lose his erection if struggling too much.
Little doubt the slimmer guys in more endurance intensive sports should fare better ( I sure did)- but than it´s nice after 10+ years of marriage to see Mrs aparently turned on by the stronger body. Not all/most girls seem to be turned on by big dudes though ( guys usually have a small frame around here btw).

So, as a powerlifter I feel like I’m able to chime in here and throw in some advice. Now, I’m not 250lbs, so I can’t speak to the struggles of being THAT big, but I am a larger individual at 210-215lbs and below 9%BF, so I get it.
What Id say to do if you’re totally against all cardio (trust me, I feel you), is to work in some higher volume days, like doing 4 sets of 8-10 on your compound movements. I’ve always said anything more than 6 reps is cardio, and I consistently add higher rep days into my programming and I find no issues destroying my woman and doing all the work myself. So that’s my 2 cents, it apparently works for me. Goodluck brother! Hope your situation improves

I do that as well, even 15's sometimes. Talk about winded, bang out a set of 15 reps on deadlift with decent weight and it's like you get more and more out of breath for about a minute after you're done with the set. Squats get me even worse. I do a lot of even higher rep accessories as well.

I'm not totally against cardio. I do go long periods without doing any, although I'm doing some regularly at the moment. My job is highly physical as well, so a day for me at work is more cardio than most get in a week anyway. I've been heavier and working an easier job in the past with no cardio and definitely know the feeling of getting winded by everything.

Exactly. Squats are by far the most unforgiving when it comes to doing high reps for me as well. And almost all of the accessories I do higher rep ranges.

Never really got gassed during sex unless I was drunk. I wouldn’t say my cardio is very good but I’m fit enough from working a physical job that powerlifting stuff doesn’t real get me winded. Maybe speed squats or a bunch of short rest period deadlifts

My heart is great.BP was 110/52 with 61 pulse last week on superdrol and tren. I ride a bike 4 or 5 days week. I've been both bigger and smaller than I am now. I've just always liked that out of breath feeling with my heart pounding and not necessarily from sex. Running sprints, etc.

You must be really out of shape if you get winded during those 3 minutes of bliss! [emoji12]

I do the stationary bike as a warmup for just about every workout. 15 to 20 minutes low-intensity steady-state. And on the nights when I’m not lifting I’ll do high intensity intervals - 10 minutes with 10 all out bursts followed by 50 second slow periods gets the heart beating. Then I go and lie down for 10 minutes until I catch my breath.

Thanks all for your replies, it appears the issue might not be as generalized as I suspected. It´s not only about getting winded, but also sore. If I crouch on my legs much longer than for a set of squats my quads are screaming in pain :(
Already doing sets of 8 on light days, sets of 15s sound like hell.
Need to do something about cardio anyway, especially if I intend to put on more weight - even the BP is screaming I´m lacking of it - keen on taking up MMA every time I see Junior train (mid 40s here) but injuries flare up when I do a wrong move :( He also trains Muay Thai btw, but I´d be puking half way through the warm up, MMA seems slightly more forgiving - I used to train Muay Thai in my 20s btw, amazing how someone´s abilities evolve
Biking seems to be the safest bet, might look into it (Not even sure they have a stationary bike atr the gym) - swimming is more of a hassle to practice plus I got upset when reaching around 240lbs to see grandmas with belly overtaking me at the pool :( Only slightly overstating here.
Fwiw, the strategy of sending Mrs to Crossfit hasn´t been that successful so far, she does seem quite happy with her training but finishes it a total wreck. Can´t expect her to do any burpees on her husband upon coming back home...

Man, those are numbers from an endurance amateur athlete, not a powerlifter on heavy cycle !
Btw I gave up Adrol after 2 weeks, as lethargy didn´t add anything good to the life balance equation, planning to cycle again after 3 months but will probably stick to injectables and Proviron.
