BINGHAMTON, N.Y. A state lawmaker who called for routine steroid testing for professional wrestlers a few years ago says he's pleased that World Wrestling Entertainment has announced plans to test its performers for steroids and other drugs.

But Senator Thomas Libous says he hopes other organizations that produce professional wrestling shows also will follow suit.

Libous - a Binghamton Republican - had proposed testing the performers after the unexpected deaths of several wrestlers.

His call prompted an angry reaction from Vince McMahon, the head of what is now the WWE. McMahon said if Libous was trying to single out wrestlers for steroid testing, it would be unconstitutional.

Libous told a Binghamton radio station (WNBF) that he's glad McMahon's organization now has decided testing is a good idea.
