A package crossing the Blue Water Bridge that allegedly contained automotive brake pads heading to a Miami suburb actually held anabolic steroids, according to a statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
CBP officers at the bridge examined the express consignment package originating out of London, Ontario Jan. 18.
Officers found 60 vials of yellow liquid wrapped in tin foil and bubble wrap inside, according to CBP. A prior story stated the incorrect number of vials.
A field test was inconclusive so samples were subsequently sent to CBP’s Laboratories and Scientific Services for analysis.
The lab identified the substance as anabolic steroids March 13. Anabolic steroids are a synthetic drug known for performance enhancing capabilities.
“Our CBP Officers tirelessly work to intercept and seize illegal contraband,” Port Director Andrew Douglas said in a statement. “I am proud of their tremendous effort and the positive results that are achieved by their vigilance and determination.
Anabolic steroids seized at Blue Water Bridge
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says 60 vials of yellow liquid found in a package inspected at the Blue Water Bridge turned out to be anabolic steroids.
The agency said in a news release on Wednesday that the manifest for an express consignment package -- originating from London and headed to a Miami suburb, and examined Jan. 18 at the bridge -- said it contained automotive brake pads.
But it’s alleged an inspection turned up the vials of yellow liquid wrapped in tin foil and bubble wrap, and no auto parts.
A field test was inconclusive so samples were sent to the agency's lab for testing, which allegedly found the substance in the vials was anabolic steroids, a controlled substance under U.S. federal regulations.
The vials were seized by the agency.
“Our CBP officers tirelessly work to intercept and seize illegal contraband,” said port director Andrew Douglas.
