I would like to introduce myself to everyone. I am a 23yr. old college student graduating with 2majors and a minor. I am a record holding powerlifter, who hopes to be lifting at the Arnold Classic next year. I heard about this board through the great bros over at offshorebodybuilding.com. I hope I can help out on this board as much as I'm sure it will help me out.

Thanks bob, I have really good genetics for strength. I have a few relatives who were professional strongmen and 1 that played in the NFL. I prolly would have be playing D1 football (I got offers from about 10 colleges) if it weren't for my bad knees, I've had trouble with them since my soph year of HS.

Also, thanks for the welcome, I am already loving this board.

My record is for bench, I competed raw and still managed to get the world record. It is a bit low though, I tore my right pec just 2 months before the competition. I only got 530 at that meet, and then about a month later I got 575 raw at a meet held by a smaller organization. I plan on hitting 700+ at the meet in Indy this summer (6/25, if your in area and want to watch), I bought myself a double denim shirt, and now I have to learn how to use it.

Awesome, bro. Welcome to Meso. This is the best board for knowledge and support from cool people. If your stats are true then you must already have some knowledge. I hope you are cool, though. :)

Was that in the Junior category?

One of the Mods on this board is heavily into PLing and friends with Dave Tate and all the other big-name guys. His (former?) training partners are some of the best young PLers in the world, real nice guys too. Right now, I think one is 21 and the other (they are brothers) is 25. The last I knew, the younger brother could bench ~800 and the older could squat upwards of 900+.

Yes it was in the junior category, I would love to see where I could be at if I didn't cut weight and stop lifting for wrestling and if I hadn't torn both my pecs (first my left and then a month later my right, due to overcompensating for my left). I really want to get into the sport big, but am not really sure how. I only lift using the routines me and my dad make up, and they seem to work, but I would like to see how far I could go with the right type of training.

correcty me if I am wrong BS, due to those type of injuries coupled with wanting to raise the bar, is that a cocktail for immenent injuries, with possible permanant damage....or poor form....
Well, I think when any person gets to pushing huge numbers like that, the risk and frequency of injuries increases dramatically. Poor form could be a caue, especially with the 2nd pec tear, but I think it may just be that he is/was pushing more weight than what the body may be really designed for. Beyond that, he said he was lifting raw with those numbers, so that increases the risk of injury over someone who pushes the same weight but uses a bench shirt, wrist wraps, etc. How strong a muscle or tendon heals is beyond my level of knowledge, but if you look at a lot of the top guys, they have all had some pretty serious tears and still come back to be strong as hell. Ed Coan comes to mind with his knee injuries.

The first tear was only a muscle tear, no ligaments or tendons damaged. The second one there was slight ligament damage. I have excellent form, I actually get told that my form is too text book perfect for powerlifting. I do it with perfect bodybuilding form. The first tear was from being dehydrated, and the second as I said was from returning too quickly and having the other side over compensate.

At the meet where I set the world record I was told I need to arch my back, pinch shoulders together, keep elbows in, and bring it down to the top of my stomach instead of my nipples.

That is a typical PLer bench. PL bench and BB bench are completely different, which Im sure you know.

Staying injury-free is one reason why some of the best are the best.

sounds like you need a good coach that knows his shit....stick around youll get one...

Looks like I will be getting one, and will be getting free powerlifting gear (shirts, etc). This is pretty awesome.
