I'm 6-2 210, trying to pack mass and fet my strength up. I've heard i should consume 1 gram of protein per lb of bodyweight. Is that standard?

Here's a few links for you with some info. Most just go by the general rule of thumb which is 2g's per each lb. of body weight. So if your 210 then shoot for 420g's per day. Its also best to tryn get the majority of it from real food, not just protein shakes all day;)

I like the first link below better:D

I'm 215 @ 11%bf off cycle
I'm eating 400g protein 500g carbs 6-8 meals a day I'll raise the carbs when I start a cycle I try to only take a shake if I have to ussaly before bed and I have 50g of carb drink right after training!!
My muscle is protected as long as I get in 1 1/2g protein I got a bro who is 250 lean and takes in 300 protein and 800 carbs play with it and fig out your body

Man you have it dialed in to perfection bro.

Guys have it all ass backwards nowadays. I would put carbs before protein. It's never been proven that the body uses more than .8 grams/lb of protein.

I have no proof to refute what your saying but I'm wondering how you came to this?

I started a thread in general discussion about carbs that turned into a great discussion. It would seem to me you would only need enough carbs to help fuel your workout (this to me is mainly mental) and assist in the chemical energy needed to build muscle.

Carbs in and of themselves cannot build muscle. Only amino acids from protein can do this. Like I said, all carbs do is fill up glycogen (which is not muscle tissue, just stored energy) and help with the energy needed to power the chemical reaction of muscle building. This energy can also come from fats

You don't need carbs to fuel your workout. Protein and fat can do it just less efficiently. But the more carbs the better your intensity in the gym typically.

Here are many aspects to having a NET INCREASE IN MUSCLE MASS and protein building new muscle is only one. Carbs prevent catabolism. Wouldn't reducing the breakdown of existing muscle tissue help in creating an increase in net muscle mass regardless of if it actually builds muscle or not?

True about glycogen being stored energy but a fuller muscle is a bigger muscle. That's why physique competitors carb deplete and load before a show bc glycogen can and will affect how you look as well as how much water you're carrying.

Edit* and yes, it's been shown time and time again that one doesn't need super high protein intakes like 1.5-2g/lb BW but there maybe some benefits not able to be measured. It's a balancing act either way you look at it.

Just putting it out there. Dorian stated when asked the following question by Kevin Levrone, "U get most of ur calories and protein requirements from whole foods and lots of meals throughout the day like us?", Dorian was like "No I drink alot of shakes".

Now that's from DORIAN for crying out loud, and he was not small by any fraction of the imagination[emoji123]

If you like podcast check out mark bells powercast wheb he has layne Norton on. He explains how much even when on gear.

Truth is nobody really knows. Ok now I've answered the most burning question.

Studies were done showing the body can only use .8g protein/bodyweight. BUT those studies were done on people that were NOT on AAS. Suprising? Not really. Very little research is done in regards to AAS use.

I've actually tried alot of variances in daily protein intake for my own experience. When off cycle I shoot for 300-350. Why? Because it's a good point for me. No science behind it. I'm not even gonna try to convince you it's the way to go. Btw I'm 6'1 280 lean like a big ass linebacker lean not like a bodybuilder.

On cycle I take in MORE protein. Why? Well the AAS increases protein synthesis. It makes sense to take in more. It wouldn't make any sense to take in the same or less when I'm on cycle. I've done as much as 2x bodyweight and I found for a dude my size that's just ridiculous, sorry. Not to mention being backed up till next century no matter how much fiber I take. I like 450g protein when on cycle. Again not based on anything. Take it as you will :)
