How long does it take...

Hi,

I'm a newb to the forum but not to training itself and after seeing so many pro body builder DVDs, I've always wonder one thing. How long does it take to become a Jay Cutler or an Art Atwood if you have a good genetic, are very dedicated to your training and nutrition and you're on steroids? Now I'm not talking about perfect definitions like those guys have or extreme symetry but rather the build and the bf%. I mean, I've seen a lot of guys in gym who were buffed but not cut, never in my life I've seen people ripped and big like them. Is there a way to get that or they have the genetic blessing just that much better?

Thanks!

Well, not only do those guys have the best genetics on the planet. They have the most dedication, the best supliments, the best training routines, best assistance and remember, that is their lives. They get paid to work out like that. All they do is eat, sleep and lift. Its their entire lives. And to answer your question. Most of those guys will tell you that they all started in their early to mid teens and they are all at that level at their thirties. So your looking at one and a half to two full decades to get to that level, but to be honest, most people cannot get there either. Its not possible. If it was, everyone who had the money and desire would be built like them

I know someone that started about six years ago in his mid teens and went from about 160 to 280lbs, 250ish competition weight, at 5'11". Didn't use steroids until a good few years in either. If you saw him when he started you wouldn't think his genes were anything special either. He just got a proper diet and training regime made up for him, then followed it near enough exactly, instead of fucking around like most people do. I have no idea what he needs to work on, or how long it would take him to go pro, or even if he ever could, but since you were asking more about size and bodyfat level, I think he's about there already really.

I might be reaching here, but is the malphas that played ffxi? If not I am sorry.

I have no clue what you're saying, to be honest. I just picked this username randomly.

There are a few guys claiming to be natural on BB.com.. One of em is a pretty popular dude and has always hit the weights, but never seriously till after the military. He put on like 30lbs in two years of solid mass.

I know a dude who played ball for Arkansas in HS he was like 5'10 at 180-190.. When he came back from college he was 5'10 at 250 and probably 12%.. He says he stayed clean, we were really tight so he has no reason to lie to me. We have probably gotten into worse shit anyway..

I think it depends on you.

Will you miss a meal? Will you miss a work out? Will you time your supplements right? Will you take advantage of your bodies natural abilities to grow, lose fat, maintain mass? I guess the basic question is, how bad do you want it? How much are you willing to sacrifice?

Yea, it is not impossible to take your own body to incredible limits, but it is your own determination. When I was a junior in high school, I was 6'2" and 150 lbs. Now, I stay around the 285-290 range and 250 contest area. I doubled my body size and most of that was done naturally. By the time I was done with college, I was about 250 and still growing. But I did focus my life on it and still do by personal training so im always in the gym and always hitting my meals. i dont care if I have to take my chicken to the movies with me, i will not miss it

Nice work, makes me feel like a bitch for wanting to cycle so early.. Strong dedication dude.

At the right age with the right guidance and the proper supplements, good genetic foundation, I know people who have had a IFBB pro card with in five years. This was with in five years of deciding no more sports, bar fights, screwing around in any way (cant take the injuries) and deciding to become a Pro, nothing else mattered. Not pussy, not going out, nothing but becoming a Pro! I got to witness this incredible transformation when he dropped out of college ball with the goal of going IFBB Pro. Went form 6'0", 215lbs to 285lbs within two years. Granted, my friend is a genetic freak of nature and he just looks at a wieght and grows. After all that just, quit lifting as another friend of ours went on with it and is now one of the top Pro guys. U never know where this is going to lead you.
