How eating more often raises your metabolism

Every time you eat, your body breaks down your food and extracts its nutrients. By eating more often, you give your body more work to do, which uses up more of your caloric energy, and increases your metabolism.

You may have a low metabolism because you eat only three times a day, giving your metabolism only three opportunities to go up.

Since there is so much time in between your meals, you do not have long-term metabolic growth. Compare this to eating the same amount of food, but dividing it into six times per day instead of three.

Before your metabolism has a chance to slow down, you eat, raising it further up! It goes through a continuous upward cycle throughout the day.

For a bigger boost in your metabolism, look for foods with fiber. Fiber is a carbohydrate that the body uses energy to try to break down, but cannot digest, which raises your metabolism for free. Most nuts and vegetables contain good amounts of fiber. Here are the best sources.

* Corn
* Cinnamon
* Spices
* Parsley
* Celery
* Peas
* Beans
* Carrots
* Tomatoes

Tips are:

* Divide each of your meals into two, and eat twice as often
* Bring snacks with you, if it is inconvenient to divide your meal (at a restaurant, for example)
* Eat foods high in fiber
