My buddy just messaged me asking me whether or not he should drop his protein powder because his doctor said his gout on his foot is due to high-protein intake. I ask because doctors are usually retarded when it comes to giving people fitness/health advice from a performance perspective.

I looked into gout and it shows here the alcohol can be a culprit; my buddy likes to drink, and he isn't following the best diet either. He can certainly drop the protein supplementation and it wouldn't hurt, but I rather him drop the drinking and continue with the workout regiment I designed him.

He is just an average normal person; he does BJJ, but he is obese and is natty. I think the doctor is retardedly blaming the protein intake, when logically, his alcohol and obesity is probably stressing his liver and kidneys, causing protein to be an issue.

Doctors often blame sports nutrition for all troubles and illnesses. I think it's worth going to a consultation with 2-3 doctors and then there will be a clearer picture.
