GIs claim threat by Army; Soldiers say they were told to re-enlist or face deployment

that is a pretty cheesy move. That would really suck thinking u r about done with your 3 years and than be forced to stay longer since u got deployed

Joining the army is like selling your soul. You have no individual identity and your choices are dictated by someone else. Fuck 'em. At least they don't have to pay for health care. :)

Fuck em ?

Unfortunately that is a SOP. By that I mean it has always been there as an option but rarely used as we haven't had the need to do so. You always have to read the fine print when signing a contract.

I'm not agreeing with it just saying that this option has always been there, without it the draft would be our only other option.

Still sucks though. I finished up active duty and was home for a whole ten days when I got the call for the first Gulf War. I never even unpacked my Sea-bags.

In terms of crying for them. Granted, it's a pretty shady maneuver, but when you join the army you become gov't property...literally. Property can be disposed of as seen fit by the owner.

It should also be noted that I didn't read the article, in case I missed some pertinent information.

I can see your point, Stevo. I should also have been more clear in my previous posts. The reason I get ornery when people "cry" about the members of the Army is primarily because of the reserves. Not a goddamned month goes by that there isn't some sort of "human interest" story about some poor reservist who is going to have to leave his family behind when he serves overseas. Poor fucking baby! When you enlist in the reserves, that's the risk you take. All these crybaby sonsabitches wanted was 1200 bucks a month for minimal effort.

It's like making a deal with Rumplestiltskin. Eventually, you might have to pay up. But, like I said before, it is a pretty shady move by the Army.

Involuntary Extension is what it's called. So you could re-enlist and get a bonus or just get extended and get no money. It almost happened to me when I was getting out. BTW I was 17 when I joined and didn't turn 18 until I was almost done with Basic Training in the US Army.

Griz, reserve people p*ss me off too. I hate it because they are always quick to point out that they are in the Army (which I always correct when I'm around; don't you mean the Army Reserves) but when it comes time to serve they will do anything to try to get out of it. Weekend warrior f*ckers p*ss me off!

What pisses me off the most is the "I only signed up for the college tuition" people. What did they think they were getting the GI bill for? They rolled the dice.

I know plenty of guys who would do a better job than what we have sent over in the past..its disgusting..stevo

I wouldn't think the "prime specimens" would sign up... they have better options then potentially getting killed in some backwater shit hole.

I feel bad for anyone who is in combat, but you have to pay to play. Read everything you sign, or else you end up like them re-enlisted and in Iraq. Sucks to be them for sure.

These types of heavy handed tactics have existed since the beginning of mans history, not a surprise to me really. Even so..we know what may happen once our name goes on that dotted line and the haircut is complete.
