2.59 a gal.. wtf is going on now. Did Bush spill some while filling his jet? Whats the price in your area? Yes this is in the right forum........POLITICAL....

*sigh* Why is it always Bush's fault? I'm in no way saying he's perfect and I don't agree with his policies but how could this one be his fault? Guess I just wish people would use their heads and look at reality and then blame the right people.

$2.79...it is what it is. If everybody would cut their fuel consumption by 20%, prices would come back down. Don't drive to the outlet mall 40 miles away on saturday, don't drive to dinner everynight, turn your car off when sitting in traffic for 2 hours....etc. It's very easy to do.

It all boils down to the fact that we need it, and they have it. If we are stupid enough to pay these high prices, they will keep charging them. It's just business. I'm just surprised there has not been a collusion lawsuit filed yet.

If you tell me what one is, then I'll file it.

It would be where the CEO's of Exxon, Chevron, Havoline, BP and every other oil/gas company get in a room together and all agree to charge the same arbitrarily high price of $3.00 a gallon. Basically, price fixing.

It's illegal because it removes competiton from the market place, but is also very difficult to prove...but it goes on every single day.

Sometimes it would be nice if people actually had a clue about how the gas/oil markets worked. Unfortunately, reality isnt nearly as exciting as the conspiracy theories about Bush and his oil buddies or the oil companies colluding to screw everyone.

Oh, so you're saying I don't have a clue???;)

I don't believe any of the Bush theories, but I do believe there is some collusion going on in the oil industry.

While I agree that there is collusion going on, I dont believe its on the part of the oil companies. The problem, in large part, is OPEC. They control the quantity/volume of production. Its no different than DeBeers controlling 75% of diamonds in the world. Diamonds are only as rare as DeBeers wants them to be. Same thing with oil and OPEC.

But even there, ExxonMobils (and the other oil companies) profits werent out of line, so I dont see what the big fuss is all about.

by that same token, i love it how a lot of clueless mf'ers love to bitch and moan about Exxon Mobil's profits, yet they have no problem supporting their Starbucks habit with $4 cups of coffee. Do they bitch about Microsoft? No, all they have are these conspiracy theories about how Bush and the oil companies have some kind of agreement to take over the world.

fucking same retards bitch when gas prices go up,blaming President Bush for high gas prices. Have these people ever opened an Economics 101 book? Where were these people when their highschool Econ teachers were drawing supply and demand curves on the blackboard?

Some people just need to educate themselves before arguing politics and the economy.

well, well, well, a Bush backer has came from the wood pile... funny how that nerver happens any more.. ;)

yup blame bush for everything i guess now. I guess if the dog shits on your guys carpet now adays its bushs fault i guess. But really, in reality the number one gas producer is russia and iraq is number 16 lets do the math here and relize that gas comes from more than just middle eastern countrys. The fact is the price of gas has been going up way before bush even took office, hell it started going up before i could even drive!!! Its simply greedy mother fer's and the extremly high demand for oil thats making oil what it is today.

What high demand are you talking about JJA?, have you actually looked at the oil market or are you just assuming?

Saudi Arabia alone is having 400,000 barrels a day of oil that they can't sell.

The oil prices are NOT about high demand.

That's an issue of supply. Technically, the demand is high. I don't know a single person who has ever considered walking to the grocery store or bicycling to work or even, GASP!, jogging to the gym. Rather, they prefer to bitch about how much gas costs....as they trade in their Focus for an SUV.

So, technically, demand is high. It is obvious by the fact that people are paying 300% more than gas cost 4 years ago. It may be a falsely inflated price, but if they can get it, then more power to them, I guess.

...then what are they about then...because every oil company, oil analyst, and every foreign government are citing "high/increased demand" as the reason for justifying the higher prices.

...Saud Arabia may have 400K extra barrells a day they can't sell, but it doesn't matter to the US because the oil coming out of Saudia Arabia right now is so dirty, the old refineries in the US cannot process the crude.

The problem in the US is more a function of limited refining capacity than it is supply. There has not been a new refinery built in the US in over 25 years. There is much cleaner, cheaper technology out there that could get the job done, but no company in their right mind would consider building a new refinery in the US because of the EPA and the environmentalists. It's just too much hassle.

I saw a special on Discovery Channel or something like that about US oil refineries. Basically it said that the older refineries in the US are only capable of processing certain types of crude and that much of the cheaper crude available today is incompatible with the technology here in the US.
