Filtering and rebottling gear

i assume this is the best place to ask this.

I want to filter some ugl gear I have and put it in a new vial. Can someone explain how to go about this and what I'd need.

Also I just bought a 100cc vial of npp and want to put it in 10cc vials so I'm not destroying the stopper when I pin it. Do I simply buy sterile vials and draw out of 100cc and inject in 10cc vial? Or do I need to sterilize the new vial even if it's sold as sterile vial. Obviously will wipe everything down w prep pad.

Thanks in advance and sorry for basic questions

If it's a small amount I would go with a syringe filter, but it can be hell on your thumbs or you could use a calk gun. For big amounts, go with a bottle top filter (a lot easier than syringe filters), just pour it on top, filter (4psi, unless using a glass receiver bottle), draw with a 20 ml syringe or bigger and transfer into vial/vials. For the NPP, if it's already filtered there is no problem tranfering directly into other vials, just swab the tops with alcohol.

Yes the filtering would be small amounts. Couple 10cc vials.

would a 45u filter be good?

w the syringe filter do I draw the oil out of old bottle through filter then take filter off and inject in new bottle. Or would I pull out oil normally then inject in new bottle through syringe filter?

should I change needles w each pass? Should I buy a filter for each vial being filtered or is one enough to filter 4 vials?

Thanks

.45 micron won't filter smaller bacteria, but some people have used it with it success. You could either open up all vials and draw, just using a syringe or pin the top (without filter) and try to get as much as possible. Once the oil is inside the syringe but on the filter and a needle. Add another needle to the sterile vial to let out the air trapped inside the sterile vial (a venting needle) and procede to filter your solution. Use one needle to draw up your solution from the UNsterille vial and another for the filter. On the number of filters, it depends, two should be enough (incase the first clogs).

Unless the needle gets contaminted, by you, you shouldn't need a new needle for each pass. If you need to draw up more of the UNfiltered solution just seperate the syringe from the top of the filter and put the syringe filter connected to the needle, somewhere clean, with the cap on the needle.

Awesome. Thank U. That all makes sense. What filter would U recommend to get smaller bacteria? Any recommendation where to get? And do I use non sterile filter? That's what on cem

Getpinz / ebay / medical and lab supply

The difference between sterile and non sterile syringe filters is that the sterile ones come packaged in a sterile package while the others don't. It's up to you which ones you use, but I would go with sterile syringe filters.

.22 will give you cleaner gear than a .45 maybe @MANWHORE can correct me if I'm wrong on this. I always use .22
Use alcohol on your vial tops just like you were pinning. Ive never pinned gear that i didn't personally watch go through a whatman.
Gear seems to pass the though the filter smoother if its a bit warm.
