favorite exercises for old man knees?

I’m guessing you mean leg workouts. I would say kick back using a cable on your ankle. It’s hard to know what you can do 1-10 how bad is your pain in your knees I’m glad to to help just gotta know.

I mean more like alternatives to squat. There are also leg presses that arent constructed bad

The ones that don't hurt me much are my go to exercises. Started training legs in the1970's so i might have old man knees. I warm up with seated leg curls they work better then extensions for warming things up for me. I don't do the standard leg press much as the knees, lumbar region and hips get cranky when i try to use much weight. Doing 50 rep sets with the leg press theses days and building up to see how strong i can get with that range. There is a squat machine i use that works for me. Not all machines are the same. I find machines that move more in an arc and simulate real life, keep the pressure off the knees more then straight line movements.

If you got bad knees, any quad work is going to be problematic

If you're serious about having well-developed leg muscles, knee surgery might be worth looking into
