Equipped Lifting

Single Ply, Multi ply. Anybody here doin it? Anybody done it in the past? It seems like its falling out of favor in the powerlifting community. The big days of 800-1000 lb bench and 1100 lb squats are probably a thing of the past but it seems interesting.
I know the training is a bit different to work with the gear. How much do you get from various shirts/suits? If you haven't done any geared lifting do you ever see yourself doing so in the future?

Used wrap while a stress fracture in patella healed up. Sometimes I'll use them just to get used to bracing under supramaximal load.

Never in competition though.

Thought about equipped benching, but then realized I don't even like singlets. Lol.

Competed raw with wraps a few times. Doubt I ever will again, too much trouble to wrap yourself at a meet. Besides that just used a slingshot in training, never a suit or shirt. Thought about getting a suit to use in training to overload, but still unsure about it.

Knee wraps and slingshot is probably as far as I'll take it but you never know. A big detractor for geared lifting is putting the damn suits on. It's really a team sport at that point. They dont always train with the gear. Guys at my gym that do it only use the suits leading up to the meet mostly.

I don't have enough friends that lift or would be willing to drive hours to a meet even if I was interested in equipped lifting, which I'm not. I'm just a simple, raw lifting man.

Once you get your bench shirt you have to stay within a few pounds or it dont work properly. You will need a differant shirt for 700lb vs 600lb even if you stay same size. Same with squat suit. I never lifted equiped but I do frequent Westside and talk to the guys about it some.

Now we are talking about the good old days of my yesteryear :)…. Had to quit full meet lifting in my early 40s due to poor hips and pelvis ( thanks mom and dad) went to bench only. Its hard to find training partners that know what they are doing around equipment because we are a dying breed and the differences in technique training etc. West side and Metal Militia were the best equipped benchers in the day. You can google them and get a lot of good info. I could talk for days on the similarities/differences in equipped lifting and still wouldn't complete the subject.

Yea they are out there. Equipment only meets. The one I did last month had at least 8 people there lifting in gear

I remember when if you saw a raw guy at a meet everyone would say look he's raw... lol... Now the exact opposite, around here anyway. I always wore the same squat suit, had a different deadlift suit, and had a single ply bench shirt ( denim with a nice canvas chest plate sewed in) for opener and would switch to my double ply Karen denim for 2nd and 3rd attempts. Equipped lifting can get expensive... :)

I've thought about buying some briefs to train in sometimes in the off season. Heard you can get a slight overload and takes some of wear and tear off your hips. Can't remember who I read that recommended them.

Yeah they feel pretty nice on the hips. Be very careful when sizing and get large enough. Standard sizing is competition and they are extremely tight. Training briefs will be somewhat larger/looser. You will have to experiment to find the right fit for you. Like I said, equipped lifting can get $$$:)

I'm used to it. I go to a commercial gym, so I'm already thousands deep just buying my own specialty bars and various equipment.
