Egg Allergy

I was wondering if anyone else on here has problems with digesting eggs and if they have found a good substitute or supplement to aid in digestion. I absolutely love the taste of eggs, there's not really a way to prepare and egg that I don't like. However, the consequences of eating them far outweigh the taste and nutrition. Anyone else have similar issues and found a way to eat them without the fallout?

Can you describe what you mean with a problem digesting? Bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, blood etc?

And do any other foods cause similar symptoms?

Most of the time within 4-6 hours I have bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Most of the time it's very painful until everything passes. I have seldom gotten away with eating an egg, but on the occasion i did, they were cooked very thoroughly.. not sure what the significance is.

It may be worth noting I am lactose intolerant as well, but consume dairy regularly with no issues by using lactose pills.

Sounds like you may have an egg-white intolerance. Have you ever tried eating just the yolks, or trying egg beaters or any other egg substitute, you'll want to try one without egg whites in the ingredient mix.

I am highly lactose intolerant but I eat around 12 eggs a day with no issues. Lactose isn't found in eggs, there is no sugar in eggs at all. You can try taking something like phazyme, or any type of gas reducing medication after consumption and see if that helps your symptoms at all.

Thanks for the response. I may *cautiously* do some experimenting to see if I can identify which part of the egg is the culprit. Will probably pick up an egg substitute as well and give it a whirl.

On your lactose intolerance, have you ever tried using the pills? I keep some with me wherever I go.

I do not eat eggs and its not due to digestion problems...I had a baby sitter when i was about 2 who would force feed them too me and it fucked me up long term. its sad because there is a lot of good nutritional value i am missing out on in which I substitute with Protein shake with a Begal and cream cheese and piece of fruit followed by my daily vitamins.

I can eat eggs in stuff like muffins and cake and even french toast, but if an actual piece of egg touches my lips it sets off a gag reflex that will make me vomit instantly.

I get the same symptoms but only with eggs over easy (my favorite way). For me it was the uncooked yoke. So I just omlete everything.

I recall that some food allergies can be caused by over-consumption. If you eat too much whey can develop an allergy to it, for example. You might try eliminating all egg products for a while to give your body a rest and then slowly reintroduce them to your diet.
