Frank Zane said he doesn’t believe in cheat days/meals. I tend to agree, but for some reason when I have a total shit day, or when I don’t get enough sleep,I don’t give a fuck and indulge.. It’s bad, honestly. Today I was hit with both. I got 5 hrs of sleep after a chest/back day and had a huge fight with my parents. I started off with two breakfast burritos for breakfast, 5 piece chicken strips for lunch and now I just order’s and Italian sub, 8 piece boneless wings, and a bed of fries. Honesty, I know I’ll bounce back tomorrow but it’s frustrating that I know I’m fuckin up, but at the same time I don’t give a fuck because I’m a little depressed. what’s this called? Depression eating? I wanted to get some cardio instead, but I’m tired and said fuck it. How do you deal with this? Bounce back the next day? Shake it off? How do you prevent it?

Thanks Meso.

It sounds like you're describing emotional eating moreso than a cheat meal/day... I guess they can go hand in hand though.

I prevent emotional eating by reminding myself I never really feel much better after eating X and I always regret it. It helps most of the time.

Aside from that, everyone does cheat meals... What kind of life would it be to eat completely clean all the time or not go out and socialize over a drink or something that isn't diet food? Unless you are in need of buckling down for a competition, that's no life to live.

I am keto/IF - pretty much always. I have shared before that I am T1D since childhood and this way of eating makes managing blood sugar levels much easier.

Anyway...
About once every 6-8 weeks I get the desire for some carbs. And I go to chow town! Sometimes it is Mexican food, sometimes it is pizza, other times - it may be a burger - WITH A REAL ASS BUN. AND French fries! And while I eat that food - it feels great (for a moment).

ALMOST EVERY SINGLE TIME...
as that food digests and messes up my blood glucose levels - I say to myself: "well, sh-t! That wasn't worth it..."

And 6-8 weeks later - I develop amnesia and start with a new cheat meal all over again. LOL

Best thing to do after a fight with the rents is to grab the box of Captain Crunch and storm down to the basement!

Yea, sure, why not? Cheat meals, sometimes cheat days, whatever.

You just get to a point where you realize that bodybuilding isn't paying you and you get one life to live. Looks are great for abt 5 minutes, sometimes its nice to enjoy other things in life and not constantly obsess over wtf you are gonna eat that day.

I have three doubles 2 large fries and a lemon pie From whataburger this morning

tomorrow morning I’ll go to the local breakfast place and have sausage biscuits and gravy and eggs and whatever else looks good

Also having my other 10 oz fish or steak and 2 cups of white rice Meals that I’m supposed to have

are you able to get your regular food in ? A cheat is fine then, just don’t get out of control! If you’ve been having some cheat style meals every days and your starting to notice your abs dissipate then that’s too far

Oh You asked how to not emotion eat, umm, work on detaching whatever connection you’ve made with food and your emotions . It can’t be there

Dammit! Ever since leaving Texas - I do miss whataburger! C'mon Canada! Get it together! LOL

And I don't even think Frank Zane believed in food to be honest with ya. Guy was a walking skeleton

Lol. He was wasn’t he. Great posts in this thread. I have no desire to compete, and my boxing days are far behind me, so obsessing over my diet is ludicrous at my age. I still get in a light spar, and hit the bag from time to time to keep my heart healthy. You guys are right, I can’t let it can’t out of hand and turn into a slob, I know. I have gotten to know my body and too many carbs will blow me up... I’m no keto fan, I just keep my carbs whole grain style. You know what they say, you only live once, and by no means am I getting paid for bodybuilding or boxing, so if I feel like having a plate of pasta and a glass of wine from time to time, I will. Lol.

Cheers guys.

I would eat clean probably 95% of the time if it wasn’t for the wife, kids, and family who want to eat “normal” stuff. But like Demondosage said, you gotta live life unless your getting paid.

Personally I'm a fan of a cheat/good meal once a week. Ur body will shit out a lot of the extra fats and carbs keep that in mind. Ones body can only process so much in certain amounts of time. May wanna research that some but I've ate some pretty nasty but yummy meals once a week and never looked in the mirror and been like Fuk I shouldn't do that. Ya gotta live brother!!!! Hope this helps

If you find you re getting some issues from your cheat meals you can start doing them in a smarter way... in case of fat issues , you can avoid saturated fats.. there are a lot of options to have great tasty meals without saturated fats.

A lot of fatfree cheese, melted are good, can be eaten with some fruit marmalade or honey.

you can use sucralose or something similar and mix yogurt with cocoa and or almond/ nut / whatever butter / coconut etc

you can rost chicken ham , cutted thin, with some oil on it , roasted for something like 15 minutes at 250 C ... will become something like bacon but without fat.

and so on.. you can do some guacamole by yourself with avocado lemon salt and some greek yogurt or nothing, and eat some roasted chicken thigs with crunchy skin...

I have to avoid cheese because it got me really fat... since , on a cheat meal i eat a lot of cheese... i m all or nothing... 3 buffalo milk mozzarella... roasted Parmesan cheese... Melted swiss cheese... melted Cheddar... and so on... so i avoid it since i prefer having thin abs skin than those ephimeral emotions...

Honestly I always did cheat days from the first week. Didn’t prolong the diet and it made it a lot easier especially as I got deeper and more depleted. Not the healthiest thing but I would literally try to eat so much junk I didn’t want it for another week

I was I prep for a long time. Then upon completion I went nuts. Trying to get the ghrelin and Leptin sorted is tough. I’d eat clean for a day and go mental the next. Eat clean for 4 then lose it for 2. I’m working towards a cheat meal Friday and another one Saturday. Right now it’s been cheat DAYS. I haven’t checked my cholesterol lately but you can be sure eating like this terrible for you. Besides that eating multiple cheat DAYS makes you bloated, feeling guilty, and it makes it hard to frikking BREATHE. So, I don’t recommend it. I’ve been doing it. It’s not healthy. It’s terrible for your mental health and your physical health. Find ways to up your discipline, mitigate your cravings, and stick to a plan that’s sustainable. For me that’s going to be having 2 cheats a week - Friday PM and Saturday PM. Finally, I think it’s easier to place your cheat meals later in the day. If you have a cheat breakfast it’s too easy to ride the sugar wave all day. If you have a burger, fries, and cake at night, you just have a great sleep and get a reset for the next day.

Best thing is cooking some light cheat meals.. using sweeteners, low glycemic index carbs, etc etc.. there is plenty of recipes out there and i ate lot of almost clean cheat meals without putting fat and without craving for junk food
