Daily intermittent fasting

I know this will go against the grain for a lot of you guys but I've been reading about stupid increases in growth hormone output from fasters doing x2 weekly 24 hr fasts. 1000% increases. Not to mention the possible life extension benefits of regular caloric restriction.

I'm just starting out lifting again. I don't intend to juice and I have used creatine taurine etc. etc. but quite honestly I can't be bothered with making disgusting tasting amino drinks for before, during or after workouts and all that shit so I've just decided to EAT REALLY WELL, whole foods, wholewheat grains, organic etc. and optimise hormones wherever else possible.

Getting a little old (nearly 37) I want to feel the best I can and be the best I can and I'm willing to work hard for that but I don't want to become a pill popper or have my life greatly effected by making shakes and taking supplements all the time but eating during an 8 hr window is something that would actually be very easy for me, and in fact, make life easier slightly.

Currently the only things I plan to continue to use are my bannana, peanut butter and milk whey shake cos I love the taste and it's packed full of good stuff and ZMA at night for sleep benefits.

I've done IF but the data I've seen suggests GH only rises a good amount after much longer fasting periods. Like 2-5 days worth of fasting. It does have some benefits but I think the GH one is touted a but too much.

Take a look at the warrior diet by ori h. Iron addict had his own take on the warrior diet that I think is more conducive to guys like us that train.

I'm not gonna buy the book but the gist of it is eat mostly last thing at night?

I'd have serious trouble packing in 3000 calories over just a few hours!

is 37 old? Im 38 and I feel and look at least 10+ years younger. others say the same thing. I just got carded at the liquor store buying some wine. id like to think some of that has to do with my diet and exercise.
I have a bit of experience with intermittent fasting, I think I mention it in my very first post, eod fasting, as well as fasting up to 3 days. I used to do a lot of long distance running fasted and usually workout in a fasted state. personally I feel that when you eat, or don't eat, can at a certain level, be as important as what and how much you eat. and ive seen evidence to back that up including personal results. aside from a that its just a natural and easy style of eating instead of preparing and packing up 6-8 "meals" a day. that said, like all diets it can be cycled and has its place. I don't do it year round. sometimes I will eat multiple times throughout the day like a typical bodybuilder. the warrior diet is a good place to start. im sure you can download it, I have it on my phone.

that's the gist. I don't have a problem packing in the calories. but if you read the book, its more of an undereating phase, followed by an overeating phase. if you were to try the warrior diet, id eat mostly lean protein, low carb, low fat during the day, which in itself can boost gh. ergo-log.com/pureprotein.html
there is debate as to whether transient increases in hormones will actually result in more muscle. I do it for health and longevity reasons as well.

That study you linked investigated soy protein only.

Edit* also from the discussion

The clinical relevance of the results of this study, however, remains to be investigated.

If I recall. The gist is to under eat a few times throughout the day. Aminos or protein powder with fruits or mtc or Greek yogurt or eggs with berries.

Then in the evening you have a window of several hours to eat until full. Not pig out. Eat a large bowl of salad with protein source. Healthy fats and healthy carbs. If u r still hungry then dessert. U r eating by feel not by calories/numbers. And u r not gorging.

that's the warrior diet. intermittent fasting is... intermittent fasting. fasting throughout the day or every other day.

.

I have data that shows that there are pretty good spikes between 18-24 hours. Now the it was based of 20 yr old males.

So Doc I am not sure how that effects the 42 yr old male who supplements with pharm 4 ius in the morning. So how does it apply to vol science who knows. I can say I have enjoyed and have had success on the intermittent fasting though by far better then keto IMO. I will post that raserch in bit sitting in the sauna.

Volscience vats saunas are bad for you lol. I don't know how ppl can stand to be in those things to be honest. It was -12 here the other day and I was sweating....

Really struggling getting enough food in in my 8 hr window of IF. Particularly as I am attempting carb back loading concomitantly.

I screwed up and took in too many carbs in the day through sheer stupidity to be honest so that can be amended but I was ploughing dinner down my throat at 8pm tonight. Didn't get the desired carb intake post workout for sure.

The upside is I didn't feel lethargic during the day today with few carbs. Part of the reason I am doing this is cos I'm often dog tired after eating, particularly bread and such and diabetes runs in my family so I wouldn't be surprised if I was pre diabetic. Tried cutting out wheat and gluten for 2 months and it wasn't that so I figure my insulin spikes too high!
