Chinese cast iron plates

Not sure if this is the right thread — please let me know if there’s a better place for this.


I’m currently in the process of opening a private gym in Switzerland.
The plan is around 250 sqm with roughly 25–30 machines.


I’m now looking into standard cast iron Olympic plates, specifically “Standard Barbell Plates” (classic cast iron plates, no bumpers), and was wondering if any of you have experience with Chinese manufacturers or can recommend a reliable supplier or contact.


There are many different suppliers out there, and some of the products look quite promising.
In the EU, I’ve found Standard Barbell Plates priced around €50–70 per 20 kg plate, whereas suppliers in China seem to be closer to €10–20 per 20 kg plate.


Of course, I assume this would require bulk purchasing, possibly even filling a container, which I’m open to if the quality, tolerances, and finish are right.


I’d really appreciate any reviews, experiences, or recommendations you can share.

Good luck with your gym bro. I wish someday I could come visit it. I’m a little biased about weight equipment because I live very close to the York barbell factory. Truth be told though; when it comes to steel plates: i think the brand is less important than having plenty of whatever brand you go with. It sucks having mismatched plates from different companies, some going by KG and others using pounds. Some are smaller diameter and thicker, others thinner, exc. I like having the same plates on both sides, not all mix and match. Hope this helps some.
