Bitcoin payments and value change

I find myself in a peculiar scenario. I paid a vendor in bitcoin. That vendor did not confirm the payment until the next day. In that time, the value of bitcoin dropped. The vendor is now claiming I did not pay the full amount.

Has anyone run into this situation before? What is the typical etiquette for resolving it?

Personally, I don't think it's your responsibility to accommodate BTC's volatility. They should match up the time and value when it was sent. Would they send you a refund if it was the other way around? Hell no.

It’s a reliable vendor that I have used before. I tried to explain the situation, am awaiting a response (time zone difference slows down the communication). I am hoping he is reasonable, but just wanted to see if anyone else experienced this. I probably posted this question prematurely, was just frustrated.

Some of the block explorers allow you to view the value at the time of the transaction.

To me this would just be the cost of doing business as a vendor. Chances are by tonight, the original BTC's value will even exceed their price. It's just arbitrary. It sounds greedy and exploitative. I kind of want to know who the vendor is. They should be shamed.

I would never ever use pure BTC or ETH for payment. Always use a stable coin such as USDT or USDC. You won't have this issue using these tokens.
