"The shady faction of hackers known as Anonymous have declared a cyber war against terrorists for the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

A member of the leaderless outfit announced Wednesday its volunteers would protect free speech from “obscurantism and mysticism” after staffers with the satirical magazine were massacred by two gunmen.

“Disgusted and also shocked, we can’t fall down, it is our responsibility to react,” a statement shared to Pastebin reads. “Expect a massive reaction from us.”

The writer expressed their condolences with the families of the murdered victims whom the group called “great artists.”

A Twitter account known as @OpCharlieHebdo, created the day of Wednesday’s bloodbath, then asked its followers to report Twitter accounts of suspected terrorists. A crowdsourced list shared by the group Friday has collected more than 100 accounts on Twitter to target.

The hackers apparently associated with the international network took responsibility Saturday for bringing down Ansar-Alhaqq.net with a distributed denial of-service attack. The religious website in French and Arabic that waves an Islamic State flag.

The proclamation against the group’s latest enemy is typical of Anonymous, Gabriella Coleman, a professor at Montreal’s McGill University, told the Daily News in an emailed statement.

“It was wholly unsurprised (sic) that Anonymous launched #OpCharlieHebdo as censorship is one of the only core issues to continually garner their attention,” Coleman, also the author of "Hacker, Hoaxer, Whistleblower, Spy: The Many Faces of Anonymous,” wrote. “They have long used DDoS as a protest tactic to show solidarity and express their dissent.”

The hackers have since shared a Youtube video to the Anonymous France account showing a masked man whose disguised voice called for action against terrorists.

The video’s description translated to English pledges to track down businesses and organizations supposedly connected to this week’s terrorist attack.

“We will find you,” it states.

It’s not clear who is behind the video messages or how many members of Anonymous — which was founded in a dark corner of 4chan more than a decade ago — may be involved.

The hack coincides with demonstrations throughout Europe and the United States to pay tribute to the 12 victims in the Paris attack including a police officer and guest at the Charlie Hebdo office.

Hundreds of free speech advocates gathered at Manhattan’s Washington Square Park, waving French flags and pens while singing the French national anthem and shouting “Je Suis Charlie.”"

The more I hear about these guys, the more I fucking love them. Anonymous is exactly what this world needs right now.

Anonymous, to my knowledge, isn't so much a group of hackers... It seems to be more of an ideology. The ideology behind Anonymous will never die though, to answer your question. You don't need to sign up and pass a test to be a "part" of Anonymous.

Hackers, for the most part, are lone rangers. Some of them have bad intentions like trying to steal credit cards, while others have relatively harmless intentions. I'd say mocking governments for the part they play in the erosion of civil liberties would fall on the "good" side. Or mocking certain groups who try to make everyone conform to their views, as is the case with this particular news article I posted.

They've never acted like the press, they only periodically post videos on certain issues they plan to tackle.

The press acts like a bunch of fools on a regular basis, caring more about sensationalism and views rather than reporting on actual news that matters.
