Hi Thanks for reading. What supplements, or foods, would you recommend for someone wanting to run the 800 meters and 1500 meters.
Is there anything that middle distance runners would eat regularly or something they think would be very important to get a lot of EG beet juice, nitrates, some people talk about high strength b-vitamins.
Thanks

Yeah, beetroot juice contains nitrates, which can help to improve blood flow and oxygen delivery to muscles, potentially improving endurance performance.
Also, B vitamins play a role in energy metabolism, so consuming foods rich in B vitamins or taking a high-strength B vitamin supplement may be beneficial

Middle-distance runners rely heavily on glycogen stores for energy during their races, so consuming adequate amounts of carbohydrates is important.

Good food sources of B vitamins include whole grains, such as brown rice, quinoa, and oats, as well as nuts, seeds, and legumes.
I'd say 6-10 grams of carbohydrates per kilogram of body weight per day, depending on your training volume and intensity. Also important to consume carbohydrates before and after workouts and races in order to maximize performance and recovery, you have to maintain those glycogen stores.

Beetroot juice 500 mL per day, taken 2-3 hours before exercise, to get sure you are not bloated at your workout.

Ive used the following to help my running game.

Beet Root
Citriline Malate
Bet Alinine

Then there are the vitamins minerals
K
D
Potassium
Magnesium

I also like the runner gels just make sure it doesnt upset your stomach beforehand

Is injectable L-carnitine a supplement? It is in my books.

600mg will wipe 30 seconds off my 1k split.

Thanks! Is L-carnithine oral legal or banned. Does it do anything compared to the injectable version, or is injectable the only way to go

Thanks! How would you take these. The vitamins you could take everyday, but the beet, CM and BA, how would you take those, how long before a run ?
The CM is thought to kick in very fast

Thanks! Is it useful to carb up before a run, or does carrying all that extra food around in your stomach make you feel heavy and bloated?
Is it true that some runners carb up the night before so their muscles are full of glycogen, ready for the next day, or is there a better way of doing it

Thanks! I have been running around on the streets for the past few years and think i am a okay runner.
Out of curiosity I was cycling past my local track a few months ago, tried out the 800 meters and did it in 1 minute 51 seconds .
Am thinking if i can get advice on diet, it may help to improve my time, and i could possibly enter a few local competitions. Don't think i will make it into the big leagues, but if i can get the time down by a few seconds i will be happy

Respectfully here, you did not run a 1:51 800m unless you’re a current or extremely well maintained former low d1/ or d2 level collegiate track athlete or should be gunning for Olympic trials.

I'm being serious. I've been running for years, train for about 4 hours everyday.
If you’re running casual 1:50s then you need a coach (if you don’t have one), some people to run with/against and to be looking at serious competition. Thats an extremely impressive time.

Thanks!
I don't have a coach, it is a very good idea and something i am thinking about.
I do need some diet advice though, what to eat, what not to eat.
Is there anything you would consider useful to take, as food or as supplements.
I've read a ton of running books, online articles, and there is so much information out there i'm overwhelmed.
I'm hoping someone can condense it down for me, perhaps a list of the top ten foods or supplements i should be taking

Get an Albuterol inhaler for chemical performance enhancement. Also get a can of oxygen from Walmart or Amazon. Load up on O2. Beet root, nitrates, carbs, load up on carbs that will digest well and sit in the stomach nicely, think pasta, the night before or several hours before. Lactic acid buffer like Baking Soda supplemented in too, with electrolytes and minerals.

800M is a shorter distance run, but a really long sprint. Good luck. Obviously Ben Johnson recommends EQ and Winny V. Lol. Use sparingly.

When should i take the oxygen?
Which electrolytes and minerals do you recommend, is there anything that is of particular importance to load up on

I would definitely be eating all the pasta an pancakes and french toast I want. Someone said gel packs I'd just take honey packs or sticks.

Electrolytes Gatorade or pedialyte. Its has sodium magnesium potassium all that + simple sugar.

Mid distance is not my favorite I like 40, 100 or 5 or 10k I havent done a 5k in a few years. I would like to again tho

You can try a half a viagra and and a red bull lol

Thanks!

Have the oxygen on hand, and use it before the race, in training, and perhaps have a small keychain sized one available if you become gassed. Not necessary but it really helps boost performance. Replenishes oxygen levels much quicker. Not to be used constantly though. I'd say you'll have a good starting benefit even from just a big breath worth held in a few minutes before starting the race.

Electrolytes go hand in hand with cell communication, function, and optimal health. The main ones are calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium. There are recommended RDAs by the FDA. Electrolyte packets from Walmart will work. Just be careful as it may cause diarrhea, you'll want to know how your body responds to these supplements first. It's something to be wary of on a day to day basis as to not cause deficiency. Eating fortified pastas, milk, and eating adequate red meat really helps.

Thanks! Should i consume the recommended daily allowance for electrolytes, or vitamins even , is there any benefit to taking extra of anything.
Are there any foods that may be important, cocoa is supposed to contain flavanoids, some herbs can cause veins and artieries to open up, diets with more fats and proteins is thought to increase testosterone etc
