Ok so I'm a newbie but I would like to do something with my body. I'm about as fuct up as a football bat right now. I have lifted weights before and just ate food and had good gains but I have been totally lacking lately and I want to change it all around. Now here's my ticker. I'm 5'6" at an average of 130lbs. I have been working anywheres between 12-16 hours a day for about the past year. Then they stuck me on 12 hour shifts every other day but it's actually 20 hours after pt and work and getting out late, etc. I'm in the military and I run roughly 4-5 days a week anywhere from 3-6 miles a run. I know I need a lot of calories to bulk clean and I do know that you have to eat lean to gain lean. I have been doing research and so far I've figured out that 1g protein=4 cals, 1g carb=4 cals and 1g fat=9 carbs. I have been looking for websites to help me with what I should eat and how to get a good sum of it all. It is harder for me for some reason. I'm not lazy by any means but from what I'm thinking its kind of crazy. I have a lot of questions and don't really know anyone who is hardcore as most of the people on this site. I eat like crap, don't lift the right way, don't get enough sleep, etc. I know the things that I need to change and that is everything. But when it comes to things like figuring out a tuna fish sandwich it is kind of mind boggling b/c I make my tuna with eggs. An average sandwich would equal up to what???? Take the eggs, tuna, mayonnaise, mustard, and bread. That equals I don't know what. I have been looking for a chart that tells me what food has what calories. I'm really serious about this. I want to get bigger and stronger. Coming this Monday I am actually going to be blessed by getting a real set schedule at work (so they say). I will be going to pt at 0600 and get off around 1630 (4:30 pm). I'll have a possible two hour lunch at 1100. That is going to be the time that I hope to get into the gym and start the 5x5 program. I know it will be a lot of exercise but hey I want this and I have finally come to terms with myself. You can call me stupid or ignorant or just not trying hard enough but I guess that should be expected. I could go off and spend a couple hundred dollars on a trainer but then I really wouldn't learn as much and spend more money than I need to. I would have put this in the introduction forum but there isn't one. I looked carefully. Any words would be appreciated. Thank you for your time and your thoughts.

Welcome aboard bro. There is a thread in the first page entitled, "hi, i'm a noob". Read it up and you'll get some info. ;)

welcome...check out the training and nutrition forums..then ask away...being in the army myself, it is hard to bulk and lift, while mantaining strict weight guidlines and with all the running and calasthenics you have to do

I see posts like this all the time, you will not be able to bulk and train properly with jobs like that, CHANGE YOUR JOB.

Yo Krazy !!!

like Karch says very dificult to eat train and rest properly whilst in the military.

I myself spent 6 yrs in a ranger bat talion out of columbus GA, If you know about us we never slept, never ate, and training yeah. Not to say we didn't have a weight room but I never had enough strength left in my body to size up. not to mention the lack of available protien rich foods,or rest time to aid in recovery.

Now there is still hope, your cardio will keep you lean, as well as the food. Are you in the field much ?/ I found I could always get some extra calories by hittin up a bro for his food outta his mre, trade out the desert for the the actual meal, I would stock pile these when in the field and eat more reguarly, so i was always feeding my calorie burning machine.

Try to get in the weight traing when you can and push yourself, if you have a 2 hr lunch thats the perfect time, maximize on what you have and you will get some results. be sure to get a diet plan together which includes 1-1.5 grams of protien per lb of body weight.

I did not start putting on real weight til i dd'd out in 93 when i discharged I was 6' 185 now 6' 230 and a pretty good coat of muscle, its taken me almost 12 years of continuous training, reading, and rest to get here.

I will say, I thought i Knew a thing or two about training, until I found this board in 03 I feel i have gotten more info from this one site, about proper training, DIET, and recovery than anyhere else and its FREE.

I did ahem use this site to meet a few people, but I can honestly say never touched the stuff till i had been training for15 years i did what i call frankencycles once when i was in my late 20's USELESS, got nothing from it but a flat wallet and some seriously fucked up advice from the ashole that sold it to me.

Well i have rambled enough,I need to eat and go hit the gym for some cardio. maybe i will wake up my girl first ;)

good luck welcome aboard, stick around a while, do some reading and pay attention to what the vets mods, and supermods have to say. You will learn i promise

later

p.s. good job in what ever it is you do in the ARMY, we need you guys.. you to BIGKARCH bless you guys i have to say i miss the high speed low drag life style of the US military keep up the good work

Well, my diet isn't completely done yet but I will try and post it soon. I have been eating pretty much everything that I can think of right now b/c I know when tomorrow hits I'll be needing it with cardio at 0600 and when I go and eat some iron for lunch. I have my maxes for right now. I've been looking for a sheet that will help me out with the different percentages of my max. Also, my woman made some killer spaghetti tonight so all the left overs are coming to work. I'll try and carb it up as much as possible till I get the plan together. Thanks for all the help and information guys. Oh yeah I'm actually in the Marine Corps. We're not as smart as the Army but we try our hardest.

It aint gonna happen unless your a genetic freak, or unless you change your job, arnie was an exception, he managed it while in the army.

You say it won't. I'll get the tape out tonight. I'll get a caliper. I'll weigh myself. I'll post it all. Then, I'll train, eat, train, eat, eat, eat, eat, then sleep. Give me three months. Let's see how much I get from that. I will achieve the impossible. Fret not young one for I will grow like an oak and set my roots.

Now, I know it's going to take more than three months. But it can be done and I will show you.

Why make life difficult for yourself, just change job and achieve your goals quicker.

Um Can I come through the computer and slap some common sense in you? Do you know what it takes to get into the military? Do you know how hard it is to get out when you want without going to jail first? I mean don't get me wrong you have a point to what your saying but honestly...... Do you really hear what your saying? Do you want to switch places??? ......................... You know what. I was going to argue with you about your comment but hey I'll just show you. Besides if it were so easy then everyone would be as huge as you right? Then we wouldn't need or utilize this forum to it's fullest. Hmmm. Think I'll take the harder road that way I know that I deserve what I get and that I EARNED IT!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your time,
Krazy

Say Bro you got a good job and you should be proud of where you are. Of course its going to be tougher on you to gain like you want. After college I spent four years in the military as well. Just stay determined and you will make progress.

Look you can't have your cake and eat it, either you want to be in the military or you want to be a bodybuilder. Certain people can get away with achieving both due to genetics, ARE YOU ONE OF THEM?

Feel free come through the computer and i'll show you some fucking common sense, were not talking about how difficult it is to get into the military, were talking about building a body up while in the military and i'm saying it cant be done unless you have a certain physique, and even if it could be done it wont be easy. Personally if it were me I would just concentrate on the military and leave bodybuilding alone for another time.

Bro why are you coming down on him like this? Im not interested in arguing just curious. He didnt ask any dumb questions. All he wants to do is put some weight on as well as pursue a bodybuilding lifestyle. Why cant he do this and be supported by the community here?
