Cheap home gym setup

Hi, I am looking to setup a cheap home gym.

I am thinking of purchasing one of those Multifunction Power Tower Stations. Typically includes squat rack, pull up bar, bench press station and dip all in one. Also planning to purchase a barbell and dumbell and ton of free weights.

Basically do you think doing workouts using only barbells and dumbells will be enough to build muscle. I won't have a lot of the other extra equipment that normal gyms have

For the dumbbells don’t buy a bunch just save up for an adjustable set. The ones that go up to 90lbs you can find factor seconds normally rather than the $800 model from bowflex. I found a company that sells the unbranded seconds for $400 you just need to google fu it.

Realistically my home gym is just a bench, squat rack, pull-up station/dip station and pull down machine. Adjustable dumbbells and my Olympic bar allow me to do everything I need when I can’t make the 10min drive to Golds.

I had a set of bowflex select a while back since I have limited gym space, they were pieces of crap really. Got then from a freind used.

I really prefer having my individual 5-50 pounds and a pair of 70s is good for me. At this point, I'm doing higher reps anyway.

I wana look into adjustable dumbells more now though since they're are more on the market, mabe the quality is really good on some.

I have the Bowflex 52.5lb ones too that I bought for $350 when the pandemic hit and both gyms I go to closed. The plates can get damaged but I can find replacement plates and those weren't cheap either. Only thing is that these are LONG...and hard to curl with.

The Powerblocks aren't cheap and they are around $850 or so for the pair.

Pair right now. It’s 300 for a pair of the 50s and then you add two expansions to hit a pair of 90s. If you have the budget and space for a full set of dumbbells then that obviously way better
